Intermodal Transit Hub
Port Chester, NY

The Village of Port Chester is one of the first “bedroom” communities in close proximity to New York City. Only 30 minutes from Grand Central Station on the Metro-North Rail Line, Port Chester is nestled between the Villages of Greenwich and Rye in Westchester County. Port Chester recently undertook a planning study for the revitalization of its downtown core, and more importantly linking it to the existing Metro North Rail Station.

The urban design strategy for the Transit Hub envisionsa mix of use in its redevelopment. A key design intent is to for the mixed use Transit Station to become a city center in the traditional sense, in that it supports living next to public transit and reduces the necessity for automobile use. Affordable housing matched with amenities would encourage commuting to New York City for professionals as well as young families. A “start-up” office complex atop the Transit Hub would offer affordable rents for many small businesses, and offer an alternative to rush hour with its potential for “reverse-commuting”.
