International Flavors and Fragrances

“Floating Gardens”, the design for a new 200,000 sqft corporate headquarters and creative center, envisions a new building where overlapping roofs are planted with botanicals of every sort. The building does not begin until the 7th floor, and as such it floats. A street-level public garden is planted with multi-hued flowers and plants. Rendered in chrome, the undersides of the floating laboratories mirror the floral patterns on the ground creating the illusion of a reflected garden in the sky.
A rooftop cedar penthouse for hosting events offers striking views of the Hudson River and Midtown Manhattan.
Der Scutt designed the existing exterior skin of the New York building for IFF in 1992. In order to freshen the appearance and to make a contemporary statement, a large graphic wrap (similar to tour buses) is proposed to enliven the urban “read” of the building in the skyline.
The main workspace for IFF is comprised of a flexible modular office system. The system allows spaces to be configured into various sized conference rooms as well as personal offices optimized for all the different administrative and laboratory environments needed. Custom storage allows staff to access bottles from the corridor as well as within the offices.
