WarehouseMAX

Salina, KS

WarehouseMAX takes its inspiration that the roofs of the both the main warehouse space and the rear ancillary space need to be removed due to structural considerations.  The scheme proposes in their stead one large roof, clad in highly polished chrome-plated steel panels, enclosing a large open volume for the Warehouse.  This large volume achieves two things:  First it captures the Kansas Northern Sky and brings it into the space, and second, it becomes a “cultural landmark” for the Salina Art Center in much the same way that the concrete grain silos are seen from various vantage points in and around Salina.

The Artist Residence hovers between the interior volume and the exterior open courtyard, thus allowing the artist open access to both venues.
