"Beam Up"
This proposal is for "Project Glow" for the 9th Annual DUMBO Arts Under the Bridge Festival. It consists of a theatrical directional light spotlight mounted to the underside of the Manhattan Bridge with a green color gel creating a straight shaft of eerie green light downward. The diameter of this shaft of light is approximately 36". On the ground a 36" diameter static electric disc is activated when a person stands on it, making one's hair stand on end. Once a person enters the beam of light, they will experience a strange perception of floating, not unlike a personal alien abduction. The static electricity will make their hair stand on end and add to the illusion of the light's transformational power. This project will require a power source or generator at the underside of the Manhattan Bridge Overpass, as well as access to the underside of the Bridge to mount the spotlight. The site is on the grounds of the newly completed section of the Brooklyn Bridge Park under the Manhattan Bridge waterfront @ the intersection of Plymouth and Bridge Streets.
